Thanksgiving in San Diego
This year I’m lucky enough to have Thanksgiving at my house again. We’ve been going over mother-in-law’s and father-in-law’s home’s for Thanksgiving dinner for quite some time. I used to have the honor of having Thanksgiving at my house but as we started becoming empty nesters Thanksgiving dinner moved from my responsibility to the in-laws responsibility. Now for some reason or another it’s back to me.
I actually like cooking Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a great holiday with low pressure “no gifts – like Christmas”, football, food, family and friends. I got the word last week that I would be hosting and cooking for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner. I was pleasantly surprised. I made a Costco run last Saturday and took a look at their turkeys and hams. I couldn’t resist, I got a 25 lb. turkey for 99 cents a pound and a really nice ham “not spiral cut – I find those to dry out and I think they’re cut way to thin for a savory piece of meat like pork”. I felt real good about those 2 Thanksgiving Day essentials.
I went to Vons to get the fixen’s like potatoes, yams, stuffing, broccoli, etc.… OK so I’m all set for Thursday morning and the weather should be in the 60’s with a small chance of rain, perfect for a Thanksgiving Day in San Diego. Football includes Eagles vs. Lions, Panther vs. Cowboys and Bears vs. Packers. Descent line up for a day of football and turkey.
We have a lot to be thankful for. Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.
