Cardiff by the Sea is community located in Encinitas, North County Coastal San Diego. Cardiff is a wonderful beach community within the larger community of Encinitas. The Welsh word for Cardiff is [Caerdydd Glan y Môr], don’t ask me to pronounce it, I can’t. Cardiff has its own zip code which is 92007. It sits on the coastal hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean and is one of the beautiful coastal communities that dot the coastline off of Highway 101. The homes in Cardiff have some wonderful San Diego coastline Views.
You can get to Cardiff by the Sea off of the San Diego Freeway 5 by taking either the Birmingham Drive or Manchester Avenue exits. If you take Birmingham Drive west towards the Pacific Ocean you’ll notice street names like; Glasgow Ave., Edinburg Ave., Cambridge Ave., Oxford Ave., Montgomery Ave., Manchester Ave., and Newcastle Ave., to name a few. They’re all locations from the UK. The developer of Cardiff, J. Frank Cullen was originally from Cardiff, Wales. The development of Cardiff stared in 1901 after this area was a quite farming community on the coast.
If you take the Manchester Avenue exit off of the 5 you’ll pass the San Elijo Lagoon State Marine Conservation Area to the South as you wind your way to the coast. As you do stay to the left and the road turns into San Elijo Avenue. You’ll pass Kilkenny Drive, Dublin Drive, Norfolk Drive, Orinda Drive and then you’ll reach Chesterfield Drive. Take a left to the coast or take a right and just past the 7-11 is a great place to grab a cup of coffee. One of my favorite spots in Cardiff is Zumbar Coffee and Tea on Chesterfield Drive. A local San Diego Coffee Roaster with an excellent choice of local roasted coffee. It’s a great place to stop and have a cup of coffee and watch the ocean. I know this place will end up on your favorite’s list as well.
Solana Beach is south of Cardiff, the coastal town of Encinitas is north of Cardiff, greater inland Encinitas is to the east and the Pacific ocean is to the west of Encinitas.
