It’s time once again for the Del Mar Fair or San Diego County Fair as it’s officially known. This San Diego tradition is well known to us San Diegans as a “can’t miss event” and our kids sure remind us of that. My daughter has already asked 10 times, can we go to the fair, can we go to the fair, and we just got back from a vacation to New York last night. The fair is at the beautiful Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar and always runs just before Thoroughbred Horse Racing starts at Del Mar every year. This year was a little more congested, traffic wise, due to the 2008 U.S. Open in Torrey Pines which is a stones throw away from the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

This year the San Diego County Fair will run from June 14 to July 6. Hours for admission into the park are from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 10:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. on Sunday thru Thursday. Admission price for the San Diego Fair is $12 for adults, $6 for ages 62 and older and children from 6–12 years old and FREE for children 5 and under. There is a 24 hour recorded message for San Diego County Fair Information at 1-858-793-5555.

There will be lots to do at the San Diego County Fair in 2008. Some of the traditional things to do will be; Games, Rides, Food, Entertainment, Booths, Animals and so much more. Some of the entertainment this year will be; BB King, Fergie, Sugarland, Little Big Town, Boston, KC and the Sunshine Band, and many more bands, singers and entertainers. It’s a great week for golf in San Diego. Most weeks in San Diego are great for golf but this week is special because Tiger Woods is in town for the US Open at Torrey Pines. This is another one of my posts on why San Diego is such a great place to live. San Diego Golf Courses are some of the finest in the world and weather in San Diego is almost always perfect. I almost said, Always Perfect, but we do get rain on rare occasions. I know that Torrey Pines is many a pro golfer’s favorite golf course and I know why. The course is stunningly beautiful overlooking the Pacific Ocean surrounded by rare Torrey Pines – the only place they grow in the world.

Well I guess Tiger is back four from the leader, Justin Hicks. Sometimes I think he just likes to make things interesting. If you ever get a chance to visit Southern California make sure you stop by Torrey Pines Golf Course and Torrey Pines State Beach. It’s truly one of San Diego’s Gems. 2008 first quarter shows that homes in Carmel Valley had slightly dropped in median home price compared to the median home price in 2007. The 2007 median home price in Carmel Valley was $1,000,000 and in the first quarter of 2008 the median home price is $967,500 from the data taken from SANDICOR. This is a $32,500 drop in median home price for Carmel Valley in North County Coastal San Diego. This is a modest drop in price in comparison to other areas of San Diego County. There were a total of 66 homes that sold in January, February and March of 2008. From the 66 sold Carmel Valley homes the lowest priced sold home was $585,615 and was located on Carmel Springs Way in the Pines while the highest priced home was $3,500,000 located on Meadows Del Mar in Meadows Del Mar.

While doing this report in early May 2008 there were 52 Carmel Valley homes in escrow. The median list price of the 52 Carmel Valley homes in escrow is $964,950. The lowest priced home in escrow is $639,000 located on Carmel Cape in the Pines and the highest priced home in escrow is $2,750,000 located on Three Canyons Point in Del Mar Mesa. In early May 2008 there were 192 Carmel Valley Homes for sale in 92130. Antares Carmel Valley Homes in San Diego

Antares is located in North West Carmel Valley is a lovely North County Coastal San Diego Community. It is #2 on the Carmel Valley Map located on this page. These homes have Mello-Roos and an HOA fee. These homes were built in the late 1990’s. Antares is located between Halcyon, Elysian, and Pell Place. From Antares it is an easy walk to food, dining, movies and shopping in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center. There is currently one home for sale in Antares and it is a short sale listed at $549,000. Only one Antares home has closed escrow in 2008 and that home was on Carmel Country Road and sold for $590,000.

Alta Mar Carmel Valley Homes in San Diego

Alta Mar located in North West Carmel Valley is a lovely North County Coastal San Diego Community. It is #13 on the Carmel Valley Map located on this page. Some of the homes have excellent ocean views and lagoon views and are quite spectacular. This area is in walking distance to Solana Highlands Elementary School and close to Torrey Pines High School. Del Mar “Where the Turf Meets the Surf” as San Diego locals say, is a beautiful and famous San Diego Coastal Community. Del Mar’s first inhabitants were Indians as in all areas of San Diego. In 1840 Don Juan Maria Osuna was granted by Mexico most of Del Mar which at the time was known as San Dieguito Ranch. As in most of the San Diego Coastal Communities Del Mar started with the railroad. The railroad connecting Del Mar to Los Angeles was complete and land speculator William Reed purchased land which is today Del Mar but at the time called it Weed. The name became Del Mar in 1885. I’m glad to say that I’m selling homes in Del Mar instead of weed.

The Del Mar Racetrack was built in 1937and sponsored by Bing Crosby the famous Hollywood actor and singer, Pat O’Brien and Paramount Studios. In 1993 the Del Mar Fairgrounds built a new $80 million grandstand. The Del Mar Fairgrounds is where the Del Mar Fair is held every summer as well. The Del Mar Fair has games, rides, livestock, sales booths, concerts and much more. I always go to the fair with my husband and children. It’s a yearly family event and has been for ever.
