Christmas in San Diego 2009 Hotel Del Coronado

Christmas in San Diego wouldn’t be complete without a day at the Hotel Del Coronado. The Hotel Del Coronado located on Coronado Island which is one of the most precious pieces of real estate in San Diego County, always goes all out for the holidays. 2009 was no exception and the Hotel Del was a shining lighthouse in a sea of holiday things to do in San Diego. Parking was $25 at the hotel so we decided to park out on the street which was surprisingly easy to find. Some in our party parked at the hotel and paid the $25 which might seem steep but if you spend the whole day it’s well worth it.

Once we walked onto the hotel grounds the sounds and sights of the holidays were everywhere. The Christmas music from the ice skating rink filled the air and the sight of ice skaters at the beach under the palm trees with the Pacific Ocean in the background was unbelievable. We watched the skaters for a while and then went inside to meet others in our party in the Hotel Del lobby. The lobby was decked out with a huge Christmas Tree and covered with decorations. The lobby itself is impressive with its old world craftsmanship and fine woodwork from an era gone by. It was like stepping back in time 100 years. Once our party arrived we went outside and watched the ice skaters more and then strolled on down to the Coronado Beach.

It was a warm day in Sunny San Diego and surfers were surfing and even a few swimmers dared to take a dip. I thought of the rest of the country and how most were under snow or way too cold to be out walking around in a T-shirt, shorts and flip flops. Oh well, that’s San Diego and how we spend our winters. We went up to the Hotel and ate lunch and were lucky enough to get a seat for all of us overlooking the beach. We spent 4 hours eating, talking and having a great day. Then of course we had to have some Moo Time Ice cream to complete the perfect day.

It was a great day at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego and a Christmas outing we’ll never forget. Christmas 2010 we’ll be at the Del again. Hope to see you there.
